Things which are currently annoying me:
The CBBC advert - kids out playing in the sun, running around and having fun. Good? No! Not according to the BBC, who dump a bunch of tellys in the middle of their game to lure them back inside to participate in dodgy Blue Peter phone-ins.
The former resident of my flat - do I want to take part in medical experiments? No. Do I want to pay his credit card bills? No. Internet gambling? No. Redirect your mail, you muppet.
BBC continuity announcers trying to make jokes.
Not having any money, although that will change on Monday, thankfully.
Media hysteria over Foot and Mouth, when people are dying in an Ebola outbreak in Congo, with concurrent Shigella and Typhoid epidemics in the same communities. Perspective people? I understand that Foot and Mouth has an economic impact but people are dying!
I think that's everything! In better news, Mock the Week is on tonight, that should cheer me up.

There was an interesting article in the Guardian today about 'Dr' Gillian McKeith...
"McKeith is a menace to the public understanding of science. She seems to misunderstand not nuances, but the most basic aspects of biology - things that a 14-year-old could put her straight on."

I truly did not think that there was anything in this world that would make me vote in the Eurovision song contest. Sure, I'll watch it, but vote? There is rarely anything to make that worthwhile.
But this year is different . Having just purchased this weeks Kerrang! (not something I often do, but it had posters) I seriously thought I was hallucinating. Lordi representing Finland in the Eurovision song contest? Seriously? That might be the Best Thing Ever to happen in Athens. Not to be missed, especially since the UK entry is possibly the lamest thing since the invention of the wheelchair. The song is called Hard Rock Hallelujah and it kicks ass.

Picture the scene if you will. It's Friday night. Heather is in her room revising, She gets up to switch on the teeny, tiny black and white TV in her room. This action requires crouching. So at the exact moment that she realises that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are on Jonathan Ross, the only sensible course of action is to bunny hop with excitement. Clearly. Heather is now feeling very ashamed of this outburst, totally out of proportion to the actual incident. Heather has been revising for too long and has now been reduced to writing in the third person as the shame coursing from her fingertips forbids the use of any pronoun in the first person.
Heather worries for the friends accompanying her to T in the Park where the afformentioned band will actually be present IN THE FLESH! and requests that they forgive her in advance.

How good is the Irn Bru 32 advert? Makes me laugh every time! Simple things etc.
On a related note, there is a pigeon nesting in the tree outside my window. I will be watching it with interest as a fully paid up member of the RSPB. Oh yes.

Call me an optimist if you will, but occasionally I like to tune in to "science" programmes on the tv in the hope that they might make me interested rather than angry. Wrong again.
I watched the Equinox special on Avian Influenza tonight and athough parts of it were very interesting, some of it fell into the easy traps of science reporting.
I don't mind so much when it is adverts that contain bad science, after all it is in the interests of the company to promote certain aspects of their product. But programmes which exist to inform the public should make sure that they nail the basic facts first.
Ok, I'm done ranting now, it's safe to come out from behind the sofa.

Things that have been annoying me this week:
- People who do not give up their seat on the bus for elderly or clearly infirm passengers
- People who think that just because they are older than you they know everything/can do your job better than you can (ok maybe one specific person here!)
- People who think that just because you are younger/less experienced than them that they can blame their mistakes on you (yep, same person)
- Bad science in adverts
- Loan company adverts on daytime TV
- People who are famous for being famous/sleeping with someone
- Recorded message phone calls
- Insincere compliments
- People who sulk when they don't get their own way
- Plastic surgery reality TV programmes (more especially the adverts since I don't watch the programmes themselves)
- Computer mouses with no scroll button
- Bad manners
And it's only Wednesday!

I have just seen an advert for a new series of Rock School on Channel 4. The first series was brilliant, putting Gene Simmons (Kiss) into an exclusive boarding school as a music teacher and attempting to form a rock band from the pupils. By the looks of it this new series will see him in a very different kind of school but with the same goal. As arrogant as he is, I can't help liking Gene Simmons and it certainly makes for interesting and funny TV! The first episode is on Sunday on Channel 4.
